Seen through colonial eyes, swamps are valueless - they cannot be used for housing, mining or farming. It took me time to see beyond this place’s austere beauty. After repeated visits throughout the winter, I learned which animals visit and the marks that they leave. Motion-activated cameras were deployed to watch in silence. Flashes of awkward moments of time, perhaps charming because they are so candid, provide revelations of life thriving in the swamp while I am not disturbing its peace.
